Fish Eagles at the Supermarket

SONY DSC

The Fish Eagles or Ospreys like to build their nests in the top branches of dead trees. Floridians have long known the opportunistic raptors will appropriate man-made structures like this one. A local supermarket put a telephone pole in their parking lot with a ready-made nest frame. It’s about 200 yards from the Gulf of Mexico.

I noticed some unwary shoppers parking under the nest, which may add some fish guts and eagle poop to their paint jobs.

I haven’t seen any chicks peeking over the edge yet, but I’ll keep checking back.

Below is a shot by  photographer Steve Baranoff of an Osprey catching dinner, followed by a video of an osprey in action.
