The ubiquitous great blue heron

After living in Florida for a while, we take the presence of our magnificent wading birds for granted, especially the great blue heron. The specimen above is the bluest Great Blue Heron I’ve ever seen. Possibly the bright sky reflecting onto the shaded waters affected the color cast. I met this handsome fellow while he was crab fishing a brackish pond in one of our county parks.

The GB Heron pictured below  is more typical of the breed,  more gray than blue. I found him while walking along Dunedin Causeway near my home.  My SLR’s rapid-fire clacking startled him into flight.
